The 24yrs old Karsten Warholm clocked 47″33, beating the old mark of 47″37 set by France’s Stephane Diagana at Lausanne in 1995.
“It’s been a long time,” 1997 world champion Diagana told AFP by telephone of the Norwegian who has run under 48 seconds five times in the last year.
“I knew he would beat my record. I like his way of attacking running. Being just 23, he can dream of better things.”
Reigning World champion Karsten Warholm clocked 47.33 for the win in Oslo and broke the 27-year-old Harald Schmid’s European record of 47.48. Warholm also became the 13th best 400m of all time.
